  1. We talked a lot about Linklater, but I still feel bad we didn’t talk about Waking Life/Scanner Darkly.

    1. Well, for my part I regretted not getting to point out maybe my favorite touch in EWS!! (SPOILING PRACTICALLY THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE SPOILED IN THIS MOVIE):
Willoughby has a collection of Twilight Zone episodes he’s taped on VHS. Later, after it is revealed that he’s actually a 30-something and Willoughby isn’t even his real name, I wondered if he’d chosen the name after the Twilight Zone episode “A Stop at Willoughby,” which is about a guy who falls asleep on a train and wakes up at a stop in an idyllic 19th century town called Willoughby. He keeps waking up before he’s able to get off the train and stay in the past, until the end of the episode where he succeeds and after he is greeted warmly be the townspeople in the past, we see back in the present that he actually died leaping from the still moving train.
