In the spirit of the Oscars’ natural excess, your friends at SportsAlcohol.com have prepared not one but TWO podcast episodes for you ahead of this weekend’s 96th Annual Academy Awards! In the first episode, Sara, Jeremy, Ben, Jesse, and Marisa go through the eight biggest categories with our predictions, preferences, and lists of SNUBS! Oscars 2021 are finally here, which means Oscars 2021 are also finally nearly over! It’s been a long spring and a long awards season and a weird distended eligibility period, which has given us Marisa, Sara, Jesse, and Jeremy plenty of time to watch all of the Oscar contenders, except those that we just couldn’t get to. Just like years past, we are focusing on who we want to win across the biggest categories, with some bonus predictions and plenty of classic Oscar carping about what movies and performances should have been recognized by the ol’ Academy bluehairs! Be sure to listen to us before placing any virtual bets in your office’s virtual Oscar pool! (Assuming your Oscars 2021 pool is mainly about which cinematography Jesse likes best or which major-category rule most enrages Marisa.)

Do you like winning your office Oscar pool? Well, look no further, unless you have a lot of money riding on it, in which case we may not be able to help you! The SportsAlcohol.com crew of Marisa, Sara, Nathaniel, Jesse, and Jon may not have all the answers in all the categories, but we sure know how to discuss the hell out of the big six for the 2018 Oscars, chatting about our best guesses as well as our personal favorites or anti-favorites. Who’s delighted by Denzel’s surprise nomination? Who’s rooting for Willem Dafoe? Who’s surprised to love Meryl Streep’s obligatory nom? Who loves Lady Bird? (Well, to that last one: All of us.) Complaining about the Academy Awards has become a national pastime nearly as popular as watching the Academy Awards. SportsAlcohol.com mainstay cinephiles Nathaniel, Sara, Marisa, and Jesse got together to watch the Oscars this year, and beforehand sat down to talk about awards from Oscars past that we would have given and wished had never been given. This is not a recap of the 2016 ceremony; in fact, we talk about why that kind of dissection would stop being interesting about two minutes after the ceremony ends. Instead, we had a general discussion of what, if any, function the Academy Awards have in this day and age, as well as some of our overlooked favorites and personal vendettas. It’s shorter and (we hope?) maybe a little funnier than most Oscar ceremonies so finish off the season by giving us a listen.
