Indiana Jones has been a source of cornerstone #content for SportsAlcohol.com ever since we had Nathaniel write extensively about his love for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. So, with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in theaters now, supposedly wrapping up Indy’s story for good, Marisa and Jesse and Nathaniel got together for a rare completely in-person recording to talk about what we thought of the new movie, and what we think of all the new movies, too: we talk about our respective favorites of the sequels, our favorite scenes and set pieces, what we look for in these movies, how Harrison Ford might have been our collective first understanding of a grown-up male movie star… plus, Nathaniel knows a lot about The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles! It’s a great listen whether you love all five movies or just really love Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Still cranking out movies, sometimes faster than ever, as he enters his 70s, Steven Spielberg remains an enormous figure who looms, moonlike, over the cinematic landscape. Not everyone loves his work, and even those who love his work don’t love everything about it, but there’s no denying his influence, importance, and talent. On the occasion of Ready Player One, his new movie (and fourth in about two and a half years!), we assembled a group mixing hardcore fans, casual watchers, and genuine skeptics of his work to discuss the new film and everything that came before it. This was such an expansive discussion that we’ve split it into two episodes.     Quick, name your favorite “part four” in a movie series. For every Conquest of the Planet of the Apes or Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol or Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, there’s a Jaws: The Revenge or Batman and Robin or Terminator Salvation. It’s a tricky thing to pull off (maybe trickier still after the Star Wars trilogy created a template for shaping your movie series in sets of three), but studios still try it out with some regularity. Just this year, moviegoers can run out to see George Miller’s foray back to the Wasteland (with Tom Hardy filling in as Max Rockatansky in lieu of Mad Mel Gibson), followed weeks later by a fourth trip to Jurassic Park, and – at the end of the year – a return to that Galaxy Far, Far Away (the seventh Star Wars film, but the fourth to feature our old friends Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo). With those high profile (and much anticipated in the old SportsAlcohol.com offices) fourth movies due out this year, what better time to make a case for a much maligned Part Four that I happen to really like.
